"All Shook Up"

I don't know about the weather you might be having but we had an earthquake here in my part of the world which is very unusual! It's the second one I've ever been in (other one on the west coast), but sure made for an interesting afternoon. I was on the fifth floor of a building and the building swayed back and forth, complete with pictures on walls doing a jig themselves. A litte disconcerting but everything was fine ....freaked a few people out nonetheless.
I get home tonight, put my daughter to bed and then pop on the news...now there are tornado watches and warnings coming our way...

Crazy weather that's for sure!

Circle Quilt Top - so far...

I've been really slacking on the blog front so I thought I would include a picture or two of what I've been up to. I've been slowly working on this quilt top (tutorial - CluckCluckSew) but now that I have it put together, I think I want to make it a bit bigger. Hopefully I have enough variety in my fabrics to squeeze out 12 or so more blocks...we'll see what happens! I also can't decide on my backing as I've played around with the idea of a minky back instead of a fabric/quilt back...but then I'm not sure about quilting minky in a circular quilt design. Any time I've used minky I've always quilted in straight lines and I think this top screams for some more circles, don't you!

Miss G has graduated again from her program at the Little Gym. As you can see she had a lot of fun yesterday!

PTQB2- Michelle's Block - May 2010

I had some fun making up Michelle's blocks for the PTQB2. I always love an orange pink combination so I have no doubt that this quilt is going to be GORGEOUS! Whoever she decides to give it to is going to be a very lucky person.

It's the May long weekend here and today we're hoping for some nice sunny weather. All week it's been gorgeous but when we hit Saturday, it rained all day:( We're going to a bbq today so it better start shining!! I'm bringing a Peanut Butter Cup Pie which is DELISH...better get making it!!

All I can say is that you've got to love nap time....ah, almost two hours of mommy time. I got caught up on my bee blocks. April's PTQB block is for Colleen and she requested a block of triangles using a collection of shirting fabric and solids (Kona Cotton - Ash). I love the effect!

Raw Edge Circle Quilt

I was inspired by Allison at CluckCluckSew to make her Raw Edge Circle Quilt. This is my favourite pic of it in her son's room. It's colourful, fun and whimsical. I just don't make enough projects in bright primary colours!

It's a great tutorial but I must say I'm taking my time as I've been swapping some fabric to get it just right:) I sew a few circles here and there and so far I have 30 squares....18 more to go and then the fun of matching up the quarter circles begin.

I've just been in a sewing slump lately so hopefully I'll get my mojo back and post a bit more. Hope you're having a great weekend.

Cathedral Windows

As part of my PTQB2, Sandy asked us to make up a cathedral window block. I know these blocks are really popular lately so I felt up to the challenge. All I can say is that it really is a challenge! It's easy enough but takes some time with finicky little bits...actually Sandy was smart in having us make up these blocks because if she had to do each one, it would take forever!!! Her fabric choices are really beautiful and I'm sure the quilt will be striking in the end! Sandy, all I can say is I really tried!

Turning Two

I've been a bit neglectful of the blog lately, so I thought I would post today and give you an update. Little Miss G has officially turned two! It really is hard to believe. We had a little family birthday party for her and the theme was Elmo of course because she just loves the little red guy. I actually made her cake (which I'm not sure I'll do again as I was up way too late decorating). I ended up scrapping the whole notion of decorating with a star tip (which is usually very easy but my icing had a mind of its own and like to melt) and ended up using the good 'ole spatula. Ah, the true look of a homemade cake:) At least that's what I tell myself! Well it really was worth it when I saw her face and she knew it was Elmo!!
Of course no birthday is complete without a birthday crown. You should check out SewSheSews.wordpress.com. I really love Jaime's tutorial - the only adjustment I made was the thickness of the back strap...I just made it thinner because Little Miss G is a wee one. It was really easy to make up and so cute.
