"Y?" Because I Love You

My daughter turns 2 soon - which I can't even believe! I wanted to make her a fabric birthday banner last year but never got around to it with returning to work, etc. This year, I said - no more excuses:) I certainly have enough fabric lying around - as I'm sure you can relate to!

I actually think I'll turn this into a little mini tutorial - but the bummer was - I was so busy trying to get it done that I forgot to take pictures along the way...oh well, it's easy peasy and a nice way to reuse it every year.

All I have to do now is add the binding and that's it...it's done and ready to hang!

Shopping at Fabric Shack

These are some of the fabrics I picked up on our way home from Florida. Have I told you guys how wonderful it was to be in a shop that had almost all of my favorite designers in one place. I was like a kid in a candy shop:) I'm glad my husband is understanding and kept busy with my daughter for an hour. They even came into the store following me and I didn't see them! I was BUSY!

I'm not going to use the American Jane Pattern afterall as CluckCluckSew has a similar design but I like her tutorial as it's easy and no interfacing is involved:) I bought some more orange fabric for my aqua and orange quilt - I love Michael Miller's print (bottom left corner)...it's just beautiful!

Here's a pic of the fam - I also have two great stepsons but they weren't on this trip with us:( I must say Litte Miss G wasn't a great fan of the Mickey Ears but I managed to take a quick shot of her anyway....the persistence of Mommies!

Off to cut some fabric circles.

Sunny Sunny Florida

My husband, daughter and I have spent the most awesome week in sunny Florida. I'm so sad to be leaving. We rented an ocean front condo and have spent days shell picking on the beach and building little castles with our daughter. We really needed this getaway as the last few months have been a bit trying (more on that later). We went to Disney for the day on Tuesday and little Miss G absolutely loved "Tiggy and Bear" - despite the hour line up to meet them in person:)

Hope your Thursday is a sunny one.

On our way home, I'll be stopping by FabricShack and let me tell you, I can't wait!

PTQB-2

I made this up for Valerie for PTQB-2. I really love it if I do say so myself! I just started cutting and kept going...love the creative process:) I stayed up late before we left for our vacation because I wanted to make sure Valerie got it in time. I've personally escorted this block through Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and now it's here in Florida with us. I'll be sending it out to her on Monday am.

Ciao for now....it's vacation time!!

Momo Wonderland - Baby Quilt

Ashley from FilmintheFridge made several versions of a Momo Wonderland charm square quilt last summer which I thought were really adorable. You can find a pic here. I recently purchased some charm packs and decided to whip up another baby quilt. It was awesome...came together really quickly on Saturday...and by Sunday evening Little Miss G had another little "blankie." I got to practice my machine binding (which turned out pretty good) and my walking foot for my machine. It was fun to quilt using straight lines for a change instead of stippling.
Grandma and Grandpa are up visiting tonight and they brought some more fabric for me....yeh! I can finally finish my little rag quilt and take it on our trip to Florida. We might need it because it looks a little chilly there...but hey, it's better than snow!
If anyone has any tips on great quilting stores in the Orlanda/Daytona Beach area, please let me know because I hope to do some shopping:)

Plain Spoken Quilt

I've had this book for a while now and have been admiring this pattern so when I saw EmptyBobbins version, I fell in love with it! I contacted EmptyBobbins and mentioned I would like to replicate her version for my daughter. Voila, here is what I've come up with so far. I'm not sure about the mustard color but overall I think it's very sweet. Definitely "springy" in colors! I can't wait to quilt it as I love circles in quilts. I think EmptyBobbins circular quilting is amazing so I'm hoping to learn a new quilting skill:) I'm sure once I have it down pat, I will be quilting a lot of my quilts like this!

Anyhooo...little Miss G is still sick and now she's passed her lovely little germs to me:( It sucks! Back to the couch I go.

Inspiration

Just a short post today as my little one is home sick today. Fevers are just not fun and especially as this is my first child...can be scary sometimes. I think we're over the hump now but it just breaks my heart to see her sleeping and so congested! Will spring ever get here??!!! I can't wait!

On another note, here are some recent purchases which have really inspired me. These little lovelies arrived not too long ago and it felt like Christmas morning! I'm a book lover to say the least.

Modern quilts made from solids are a fav of mine. I hope to make a few this year!!
